The number of confirmed dead from a Russian bombardment of a school used as a humanitarian center in Komyshuvakha has risen to at least 33, Ukrainian officials said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking in Berlin on Tuesday, called the Nov 2 attack in the Zaporizhzhia region one of the worst since the start of the war, noting that more than 50 people are still missing or trapped in the rubble.
The assault consisted of an initial strike followed by a second wave of nine glide bombs, including 3 ton munitions, that hit a community shelter where residents were hiding. Zelenskyy said the attack took place just after a localized ceasefire in the nearby Oleshky region had ended, arguing the strike is evidence that Moscow is not seeking de-escalation. Rescue operations continue at the site, though officials say further drone activity in the area has hindered the search for survivors.
