President Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking an immediate increase in the delivery of air defense interceptors to guard against Russian strikes on the Ukrainian power grid. While the US recently authorized the sale of 500 Patriot missiles to Kyiv, the delivery of those newly manufactured weapons will not start until after 2030. Zelensky requested a winter support package of 100 interceptors per month from existing US and partner stockpiles, noting that Russian forces conducted more than 30 attacks on critical energy infrastructure in the last two weeks of October.
