Russian Tu-160M and Tu-95MS strategic bombers began launching up to 70 Kh-101 cruise missiles at Ukrainian energy infrastructure after an initial wave of about 29 ground-launched missiles struck six power plants without a single interception. Two to three of the five airborne Tu-160M bombers fired an initial 24 to 36 Kh-101s from Orenburg Oblast as part of 50 to 60 missiles expected from that fleet, while roughly six of 10 Tu-95MS bombers launched additional cruise missiles from Vologda Oblast toward western regions including Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Chernivtsi.
