Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy confirmed an attempted attack on a Saudi Aramco building in Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District on Sunday, saying falling debris from two intercepted Houthi missiles caused limited damage to the tower and no casualties. Following the strike in the capital, the Saudi-led coalition also announced that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone launched toward the kingdom’s southern region.
The ministry’s statement followed earlier reports from Reuters and AFP, citing witnesses and people briefed on the matter, that a projectile had struck the Aramco tower after loud explosions were heard across Riyadh during morning school drop-off. Earlier Sunday, the coalition said it intercepted two ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles aimed at Riyadh and the southern region, as well as a ballistic missile launched toward the Eastern Province, where Saudi Civil Defense briefly issued threat alerts for Dammam, Dhahran, Abqaiq and Al Ahsa before giving an all-clear.
