An assistant defense minister said the first phase of Operation Dawn of Yemen targets Mocha and Bab el-Mandeb, the shipping chokepoint at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. The government claimed effective control of the strait and the capture of Dhubab airport, though fighting continued nearby and the Houthis fired two missiles at the strait area. The Saudi-led coalition said 100 fighter jets participated and 324 targets were hit.
Houthi officials warned that their strikes would become “more searing and more expansive” and declared Saudi airspace unsafe for civilian flights except over Mecca and Medina. Flights into Riyadh were disrupted several times Monday. Separately, Faytuks Network said videos appeared to show government forces using armored vehicles to run over surrendering Houthi fighters during the offensive in Dhubab.
