Saudi Aramco shut down the main oil distillation unit at its 550,000 BPD Ras Tanura refinery, the largest in Saudi Arabia, after Houthi attacks three days earlier severely damaged the main crude oil train, Bloomberg reported. The unit will remain offline for at least a month in the first attack-related shutdown at the Persian Gulf complex, which also houses the world’s largest oil export terminal, though industry sources noted that crude loadings at the terminal continued on Thursday.
Yemen’s Houthis claimed a ballistic missile strike on the facility on Oct 27, marking their first attack on Ras Tanura during the 2026 conflict and following failed Oct 26 ceasefire talks in Iran where the group demanded Riyadh lift its blockade of Houthi-controlled airports. After satellite imagery confirmed the refinery hit on Wednesday, December WTI crude futures rose 2.88%, or $2.88, to settle at $102.78 a barrel and Brent climbed past $116 as the Houthis launched further attacks toward Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and also claimed strikes this week on the East-West crude pipeline to the Red Sea.
