Global oil consumption will be about 3 million barrels per day lower by the end of 2026, Vitol’s chief executive warned. The oil trading firm’s head stated that the global economy is currently unable to withstand any supply disruptions larger than those presently affecting the market.
The projected slump suggests that consumption will take a full year to return to its 2025 baseline, meaning levels from that year would not be restored until 2028 even if current crises concluded immediately. This prolonged recovery period contributes to the CEO’s warning that the oil market could face a “pretty difficult spring” as demand struggles to recover.
