A member of the crew on the product tanker Velos Sapphire was killed after the vessel was struck by two projectiles in the Persian Gulf late Nov 4. The attack occurred at 2320 UTC approximately 50 nautical miles north of Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar, and caused damage to the Greek-operated ship’s hull.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center had initially reported one seafarer missing following the strike, which took place in nearly the same location as a projectile attack on Oct 7. The Velos Sapphire had docked at the Saudi port of Al Jubail on Oct 29 and reportedly disabled its automatic identification system while crossing the strait.
