Fidan said preparations to submit the Mecca pact to Turkey’s parliament for approval are complete. Ruling AK Party spokesman Omer Celik had said it could reach lawmakers within days. Turkey’s existing support for Saudi Arabia remains bilateral pending ratification and includes air defense systems, drone operators and intelligence sharing, Reuters reported, citing Turkish and US officials.
The three countries agreed Monday in Riyadh to activate collective deterrence measures and accelerate deployment of agreed military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia. The pact, signed in August, treats an armed attack on one member as an attack on all three. Fidan said Saudi Arabia supports Yemen’s government forces while efforts also continue to resolve the conflict through peace and dialogue.
