The naval strikes came as the coalition supported the Yemeni government’s Operation Dawn of Yemen, a campaign to retake Houthi-held territory and ultimately reclaim the capital, Sanaa. The coalition said 100 fighter jets participated and 324 targets were hit, with air cover provided for government ground forces and the strait.
Government forces said they had captured the Red Sea port city of Mocha and gained effective control of Bab el-Mandeb, which connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis denied losing the coast, and the full extent of the gains has not been independently verified. Meanwhile, five government military sources told Reuters that Houthi forces advanced around Taiz and took sections of the road linking the city with Aden.
