Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow has no details about the broad peace deal President Donald Trump predicted and has received no proposals from European nations on security guarantees, adding that European governments have not decided who is authorized to speak to Russia on their behalf. CNN chief national security analyst Jim Sciutto reported that European leaders do not believe Moscow is prepared to make genuine concessions on Ukraine or wider European security.
Peskov’s remarks followed Trump’s announcement Thursday that the US is “very close to settling” the war after he met privately at the White House with Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Trump said he met “just with the head person of Russia” and skipped the visiting Ukrainian delegation, while declining to disclose what he and Dmitriev discussed beyond predicting a “big, beautiful agreement” that “might involve all of Europe.”
