The Saudi-led coalition said Thursday it intercepted and destroyed two Houthi ballistic missiles headed toward Riyadh and another toward Khamis Mushait. The Houthis claimed a ballistic missile attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport. Flightradar24 reported that the airport closed again, while a witness and three people briefed on the matter reported smoke rising from a stationary aircraft thought to be empty.
Attacks on King Khalid and Abha International airports on Oct. 6 and 7 killed three people and injured 36, Saudi Arabia's civil aviation authority said. The coalition said it subsequently destroyed 82 Houthi military targets across four Yemeni provinces. The Houthis also warned workers to stay away from Saudi oil facilities they consider targets and renewed warnings to airlines and airport personnel. WTI crude rose $4 a barrel and Brent nearly $5 after explosions were heard in Riyadh, with gasoline and diesel futures also rising.
