The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile heading toward Riyadh on Monday. The Houthis claimed they targeted King Khalid International Airport with a ballistic missile and an air base in Khamis Mushait with a drone. Saudi authorities issued an early warning in the capital and later said the threat had passed.
Riyadh's airport remains closed until at least October 17 after successive deadly attacks. Saturday's death toll rose to 13 after an Indian national died of injuries; aviation authorities initially reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries. Sunday's attack killed a Pakistani resident and wounded 11 others. The CEOs of ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP and TotalEnergies were removed from the WPC Energy Congress agenda in Riyadh amid the travel disruption, though Saudi officials said the conference would continue. BP said, “Unfortunately, due to travel disruption, we are unable to be there in person.”
