Saudi Arabia offered Yemen’s Houthis $1 billion through Tehran to halt attacks on the kingdom as part of an Iran-brokered ceasefire discussed during Monday’s security talks in the Iranian capital, Israel Hayom reported, citing Gulf diplomatic sources. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman traveled to Tehran to negotiate the arrangement, with one source claiming the funds were brought aboard the Royal Saudi Air Force C-130H transport aircraft that landed at Mehrabad Airport on Sunday. Commodity Context founder Rory Johnston noted that $1 billion equals roughly two days of Saudi Red Sea crude exports from Yanbu, while Trita Parsi cited an Iranian source saying Tehran is willing to help end the fighting but the Houthis still insist Riyadh first lift its air blockade on Yemen.
