Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his right-wing bloc secured a “clear, decisive majority” in the first general election held in Israel since the Hamas-led attacks of Oct 7. Speaking at Likud headquarters in Jerusalem early Wednesday, Netanyahu stated he intended to form a strong national government, although he noted that the final results for the Knesset were still pending.
The prime minister asserted that Iran is currently “weaker than ever” and that Israel has a “once-in-a-lifetime” chance to remove what he described as an existential Iranian threat. Netanyahu vowed to collaborate with US President Donald Trump to end the threat “once and for all,” citing the current geopolitical position as an unprecedented opportunity for the country.
