The Russian military experienced its highest daily toll of the conflict on Nov 1, according to data from the General Staff of Ukraine. The defense forces reported that 2,500 Russian troops were killed or wounded in 24 hours, surpassing the previous daily high of 2,200 set on Dec 19, 2024, and a recent peak of 2,250 reached on Oct 21.
The spike in daily losses follows a record month for Moscow, with Russian personnel casualties reaching 54,400 in October. While Russia continued its offensive, the Institute for the Study of War assessed that the military suffered a net loss of 27 square kilometers of territory over the period. This volatility comes as a revised estimate from The Economist places total Russian casualties since the start of the invasion between 1.4 million and 2.1 million.
