US Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper ordered the creation of Task Force Iron Gate, a team of about 20 military and civilian personnel based in Tampa, Florida, to disrupt shipments across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea. The unit will coordinate with other US government agencies to block illicit revenue streams and the transit of advanced weapons systems, civilian and military dual use technologies and sanctioned materials. Cooper said the initiative builds on the months long US naval blockade and aims to constrain Tehran’s ability to “finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish their military.”
