A senior security official in Tehran said on Friday that the country has completed a revised military strategy for responding to any new attacks from the US. The updated plan for retaliation would be “comprehensive and very extensive,” according to reports from the Fars news agency.
The statement follows comments from President Donald Trump, who told Kansas City radio station KCMO that he believes the conflict with Iran will be “wrapped up soon.” Trump said a resolution to the war requires a guarantee that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons, though he noted that the disappearance of various Iranian leaders has left him uncertain about who would be available for negotiations.
The tensions come amid claims from the Iranian army that its naval forces recently destroyed a US drone boat operating in the waters east of the Strait of Hormuz.
