The Royal Omani Navy rescued 25 sailors from the oil tanker Riti after the vessel was targeted and caught fire in the Gulf of Oman on Friday. The rescue follows reports from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps that a total of four oil tankers caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after striking naval mines. The IRGC claimed the latest incident involved a supertanker carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil that had ignored radio warnings against using an unauthorized southern transit route. The surge in maritime instability has led some commercial shipping traffic to turn around in the strait.
