American missiles hit military positions on Iran’s Qeshm Island on Friday after an Iranian battery allegedly fired at a U.S. fighter jet. A U.S. official confirmed the operation to the Wall Street Journal, describing the engagement as “small-scale” strikes that targeted surface-to-air missile launchers near the Suza port in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian army claims that its air defenses shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone during the exchange. Although the U.S. Central Command told Al Jazeera that the situation around the strategic waterway was “relatively calm,” Iranian state media and the Tasnim news agency confirmed that at least two missiles struck the island’s southeastern coast.
