Government forces captured key positions and large parts of Dhubab, Reuters reported, citing military and government sources. The Yemeni military also claimed control of the strait and Dhubab airport, but the Houthis denied any government advances in the area. Claims of full control of the shipping chokepoint have not been independently verified.
The fighting is part of Operation Dawn of Yemen, aimed at retaking the Houthi-held capital Sanaa and restoring state institutions. The Saudi-led coalition said 100 fighter jets participated and 324 targets were hit, while it provided air cover for government troops and air protection over Bab el-Mandeb.
