Russian presidential envoy Dmitriev dismissed reports that diesel tankers bound for the US had changed course as “fake,” stating that the vessels “continue on course.” Earlier in the day, the Kremlin declined to address commercial details regarding the altered routes, saying only that “the diesel will find its buyers.”
The statements follow a Financial Times report that two of the first three tankers carrying Russian fuel under a bilateral supply deal between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had turned away from the US coast. Even as US diesel inventories fell below 100 million barrels for the first time in more than 20 years and retail prices averaged $6.27 a gallon, US companies have refused to buy the cargoes over legal risks tied to the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022.
