Trump defended his Russian diesel agreement Monday after lawmakers from both parties urged him to reverse it, saying, “I made the right choice for the American people.” The US Treasury authorized Russian diesel transactions through April 7, 2027, following Trump’s announcement that Moscow would supply more than 300,000 tons immediately, another 500,000 tons in November and larger volumes later.
Zelensky also questioned the agreement’s ability to lower prices, putting Russia’s current export capacity at 300,000 to 500,000 tons a month against global consumption of 120 million tons. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, he proposed that Washington instead secure protection for Ukraine’s electricity system in exchange for a halt to Ukrainian attacks on Russian diesel infrastructure. “Electricity is what matters to us,” he said.
