White evangelical Christians are the most dependable remaining base for President Trump ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. The president’s net approval rating has dropped to an all time low of -35 points, and he is currently 54 points underwater with independent voters. Overall approval among adults is 31%, which is the lowest figure ever recorded for Trump in the firm’s polling.
This 31% approval level is lower than the second term averages for Richard Nixon, who averaged 34.4%, and George W. Bush, who averaged 36.5%. The same survey found Democratic candidates leading Republicans by 12 points on a generic congressional ballot, with 47% of registered voters preferring Democrats over 35% for Republicans. Separately, a CNN Poll of Polls average puts Trump’s approval at 34% among adults.
