Outgoing Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Republicans will work with President Donald Trump to block the incoming Democratic majority from unwinding their legislative record after Democrats flipped both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections. In a statement defending the GOP’s border, tax and judicial confirmations record, Thune said Senate Republicans “will not stand idly by” in 2027 and will rely on Trump in the White House “to stop the worst impulses of Democrat extremism.” Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said his party won the chamber “against all odds” in a “generational remake” of the Senate map, pledging that Democrats will focus first on lowering high costs and second on investigating what he called “the most corrupt administration in American history.”
