NBC News has projected that Democrat Bob Harvie won the race for Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District, defeating the Republican incumbent to flip the seat for his party. The result concludes a contest in which the local Bucks Democrats declared victory after Harvie surpassed the incumbent in the vote tally.
The loss ends the tenure of Brian Fitzpatrick, a 5 term member of the U.S. House who had historically outpaced his party’s performance in the district. Harvie’s win comes as Democrats captured all other remaining swing districts across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
