The exchange traded fund tracking chip stocks faced a severe selloff on Wednesday, recording its most significant daily decline in over six years. The $SOXX semiconductor fund fell 12% on Nov 5, marking its steepest one day loss since the market turmoil of March 2020.
The slump coincided with wider market instability, as the Nasdaq index broke critical support levels and the VVIX volatility index rose 45 points. Investors described the rapid decline as a result of mechanical selling taking hold across the semiconductor sector.
