Value Aligned Research Advisors (VARA) informed investors that its artificial intelligence-focused hedge fund fell 33% in October as leveraged bets on the sector faced a downturn. Despite the monthly slump, the Princeton, New Jersey-based firm told Class C shareholders that the fund’s total returns remained positive for the year, ending October with a 13% gain.
The losses come after a larger 44% decline in July. In a letter to shareholders, VARA stated that it has maintained excess margin and remains stable even as the AI sector experienced volatility, with the Nasdaq 100 Index dropping 6.7% in October and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index falling 12% on Nov 5.
