The airport canceled 99.7% of scheduled flights on Sunday, and Cirium projected about 60% of Monday’s flights would be canceled, Reuters reported. Saturday’s attack killed at least 13 people after an Indian national died of injuries; Saudi aviation authorities initially reported 12 deaths and 309 injuries, some critical. Another attack hit the airport on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia has opened an investigation into why its air defenses failed to prevent Saturday’s attack, the Associated Press reported. Investigators are also examining why there was so little warning before the attack reached Riyadh. Two regional officials told AP that the Houthis appeared to have launched drones first, followed by cruise and ballistic missiles.
