Beckwith also asserted that El-Sayed could not denounce Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood without losing core supporters. The Michigan Democratic Party has since terminated Beckwith, while federal law 52 U.S.C. § 30121 prohibits foreign nationals from contributing to federal elections.

Abdoul Beckwith, a former aide to Michigan Senatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed, allegedly lunged at reporter James O'Keefe in Detroit on Oct. 20. O'Keefe subsequently filed a police report, numbered 2610150266, after Beckwith cursed and attempted to attack him while being questioned about previous admissions of illegal campaign donations. Campaign staff physically restrained Beckwith and forced O'Keefe's team to leave the offices.
