Iranian state media, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported Wednesday that Iran’s air defenses intercepted and destroyed a US MQ-1 drone over Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it the 15th American MQ-1 downed. Earlier Wednesday, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said the US midterm election results would not alter Washington’s hostility toward Tehran and warned that any renewed American attacks would draw a “far wider” response.
The exchange came as President Donald Trump said after Democrats won the midterm elections that “we have not yet finished the mission in Iran,” while ruling out the use of nuclear weapons. “I don’t need it. We’ve knocked them out already, 90%. So I don’t need that,” Trump said when asked about a nuclear strike.
