A Republican stronghold in the U.S. House has flipped to Democratic control after Fred Wellman won the race for Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District on Nov 4. Projections from the Associated Press and Decision Desk HQ confirmed Wellman’s victory over Republican incumbent Ann Wagner, who called the Democratic challenger to concede the seat.
The district had been held by Republicans for more than 30 years, and Wagner had successfully defended the seat in the 2018, 2020 and 2022 elections. Wellman, a West Point graduate and 22 year Army veteran, secured the win after Wagner fell behind by nearly 20,000 votes during the final tabulation of results.
