Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer called Mississippi Senate nominee Scott Colom and is sending legal and operational resources through the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to assist with the remaining vote count. Colom holds a 65-vote lead over Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith after flipping Issaquena County and building on earlier tallies that put him ahead by 28 to 43 votes with more than 96% of ballots reported. Colom said Tuesday, “It’s very clear this is our election, we’ve won it,” while urging voters who cast affidavit ballots to cure any issues by next Tuesday.
The race remains uncalled with an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 absentee and affidavit ballots—Mississippi’s equivalent of provisional ballots—left to count, alongside eligible mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day that can arrive through Nov 10. VoteHub shifted both the Mississippi and uncalled Alaska Senate contests to Lean Democratic, putting Democrats in position to reach 56 Senate seats, while Kalshi prediction markets gave Colom up to a 92% chance of winning.
