House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said his party will use its recaptured majority to end the war in Iran and stop trade tariffs implemented by the Trump administration. Jeffries stated the tariffs have raised annual costs for Americans by thousands of dollars and described the Iran war as a costly choice that has driven up gasoline prices across the country.
The pledges follow a congressional election result that Jeffries called an “American tsunami,” projecting the party will secure at least 255 seats. While the prospective Speaker previously said the Democratic agenda would focus on reducing costs for groceries and health care, he specified that targeting Trump’s economic policies would be a primary use of their new legislative power.
