Democratic candidates secured victories in several key states during the recent Senate elections, including a seat in Texas that had been held by Republicans for more than three decades. These wins were part of a larger trend where the GOP lost every contest in the nation’s four largest Senate races that featured candidates personally selected by Donald Trump. In South Carolina, Annie Andrews won the first Democratic seat there since 1998, while former Gov. Roy Cooper defeated Michael Whatley in North Carolina, and Abdul El-Sayed became the first Muslim elected to the Senate by beating Mike Rogers in Michigan.
