Decision Desk HQ projected on Wednesday that the contest for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District has been decided in favor of the Democratic challenger. Zack Mullock is projected to win the seat with 51.1% of the vote, surpassing incumbent Republican Jeff Van Drew’s 47.9% with an estimated 92% of ballots tallied.
The victory flips the district’s representation to the Democrats after Van Drew, a 4 term representative who switched parties from the Democrats during the first term of Donald Trump, called Mullock to concede early Wednesday. Early returns from Atlantic County contributed to the shift, with Mullock maintaining a 29 point lead on an electorate with a D+19 leaning.
