NASA FIRMS data confirmed the blaze on the Marshall Islands-flagged VLCC, which was positioned approximately 30 nautical miles from the UAE coast in a transit lane. Iran appears to have struck the vessel and another tanker off the northern coast of Qatar within the same period, with reported casualties in the Qatar incident and both targets located outside the Strait of Hormuz.
