The state’s highest court paused legal proceedings in Travis County on Oct 30 to stop a deposition that would have named the operators of the Texas Transgender Student Union LLC. The move occurred days before the close of the voting period and blocked an effort to identify the organizers of a campaign that sent what critics call bogus transgender student mailers to millions of Texas voters.
Attorney Chris Kromm characterized the intervention by the all-Republican court as an attempt to prevent the disclosure of who is responsible for the deceptive materials. The case is separate from the identification of John Braun and the Republican Women’s Caucus Fund as the entities behind a series of transgender-themed text messages sent to Texans earlier this month.
