Israel’s Arab-led Joint List officially recommended opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot for prime minister during consultations with President Isaac Herzog, pushing his backing to 67 of the 120 Knesset seats against 46 for incumbent Benjamin Netanyahu. The 11 seat faction said it stepped in to widen Eisenkot’s lead and improve the odds of replacing the government, even as chairman Yousef Jabareen ruled out joining a cabinet over Israel’s military actions and offered external parliamentary support instead. Senior Joint List lawmaker Ahmad Tibi acknowledged that an Eisenkot administration would not be a “peace government,” saying the party is “choosing between the bad and the worse” with the sole priority of removing Netanyahu.
