Federal Election Commission filings show an AIPAC super PAC spent $94,000 against El-Sayed, whereas the CAIR-backed Unity & Justice Fund paid $400,000 for canvassing in Dearborn to support him. El-Sayed also raised $350,000 from a fundraiser organized by Osama Siblani and $252,000 from the Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee. Senator Bernie Sanders compared the Republican attacks to bigotry against JFK and Barack Obama, though El-Sayed's sister subsequently criticized Sanders for his condemnation of the October 7 attacks.
