The latest strike shut down the Russian technology company's facility in the Vladimir region on Oct. 11, following attacks in Ryazan and Kaluga on Oct. 8 and 9. Yandex Cloud lost two availability zones, removing layers of backup. Some database clusters were limited to reading existing data or were offline, and Object Storage could fail to save new data.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a Warsaw Security Forum speech that the strikes also reduced social media bots. “And it’s pretty clear where those bots were coming from – if they disappeared when Yandex went offline,” he said. ArtemR disputed the evidence for that link, cautioning that the Cloudflare charts largely show web crawler activity rather than automated social media posting.
