The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $2.09 for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, exceeding analyst estimates of $1.97. Coherent’s sales for the period totaled $2.37B, beating expectations of $2.31B, fueled by a 79% year over year increase in revenue from its datacenter and communications segment to $1.95B. This growth offset a 15% decline in industrial revenue, which fell to $418.6M, while the company’s non-GAAP operating income reached $550M.
For the second quarter, Coherent provided revenue guidance between $2.55B and $2.75B and forecasts adjusted earnings per share between $2.28 and $2.48. Management expects pro forma revenue growth for the full fiscal 2027 to exceed 60% and expects to push non-GAAP gross margins above 45% by the end of 2028. The results follow Marvell’s recent agreement to acquire Lumentum, a primary competitor in the AI laser market.
