The annual volume of high-grade corporate debt issued in the US is on pace to top the previous milestone of $1.75 trillion set in 2020, with total sales for the year projected to hit $1.76 trillion. This expansion is driven by a spike in capital expenditures for AI infrastructure, particularly from hyperscalers. Amazon, Meta, Alphabet and Oracle have issued more than $228 billion in bonds this year, a volume nearly 14 times higher than the $16.7 billion issued by those four companies in 2024.
The borrowing trend is likely to persist through the end of the year, as Bank of America forecasts a record $175 billion in investment-grade issuance for November, an increase of 27% from November 2025. Rick Rieder of BlackRock said the current debt boom has provided the most attractive fixed-income opportunities in years, noting the unprecedented size of the financing currently entering both the debt and equity markets.
