Following a Democratic victory in the midterm elections, Sen. Ron Wyden has outlined a trade strategy that would return policy-making authority to Congress and remove duties previously imposed by Donald Trump. The senator, who will take over as head of the Senate Finance Committee next year, said the move is intended to restore international partnerships and lower consumer prices.
The proposed agenda is part of a broader effort by Democrats to tackle issues of affordability and government corruption after winning a majority in the midterms. Wyden stated that as part of his committee’s new direction, he intends to hold “trade cheats accountable” to reshape the way the U.S. manages its trade relations.
