Russia released jailed American citizen Stephen Hubbard as President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff began talks at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg on Wednesday. Putin announced during the meeting with Witkoff and Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev that Hubbard, a retired teacher seized in Izium in 2022 and serving a six year and 10 month sentence on mercenary charges, was already at Pulkovo Airport, prompting Witkoff to thank the Russian leader for freeing him.
