The Kremlin verified that diplomatic discussions between Washington and Moscow are continuing to resolve the status of sanctioned energy holdings abroad. The US Treasury has extended the authorization for the sale of assets belonging to Lukoil until Nov 21, with the targeted foreign holdings valued at $22 billion. The authorization specifically covers negotiations for the disposal of Lukoil International GmbH, the international subsidiary of the Russian oil firm.
The previous license granted by the US did not specify a timeframe for the disposal or identify potential buyers. These talks maintain a rare legal channel for the transfer of Russian energy assets while broad sanctions on the sector remain in effect.
