Online services for telecom operator MegaFon and Russian Railways suffered widespread interruptions after Ukraine targeted the backbone of Yandex's digital network. Drone strikes on October 8 and 9 disabled several modules at a facility in the Kaluga region and forced a complete shutdown of the company's largest data hub in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast. The outages exposed a structural vulnerability in Russia's internet, as Yandex Cloud relies on only six physical data centers in the European part of the country, two of which were hit in the raids.
