The White House will not revise its current economic strategy to respond to the Republican party’s loss of Congressional majorities in the midterms, the administration’s chief economic adviser said. The commitment to maintain the status quo includes a refusal to ease the administration’s tariffs on imported goods, despite the party’s recent electoral losses.
The stance has led to a public clash within the administration over the impact of trade barriers. While adviser Stephen Moore argued that tariffs hurt the GOP during the midterms and suggested there is momentum to roll them back, White House aide Peter Navarro dismissed Moore as a “hired corporate gun” and stated that Moore is not considered credible by other officials.
