Moscow will rely on its armed forces to ensure its national objectives are met if the Ukrainian government does not demonstrate a willingness to negotiate a peaceful resolution, the Kremlin said on Nov 5. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia would secure its interests either by military or diplomatic means, depending on the ‘political will’ shown by Kyiv.
The warning follows comments from the Kremlin expressing hope that President Trump will continue his peacemaking efforts in Ukraine despite Democrats winning control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress in the midterms. Peskov described the change in the U.S. legislature as an internal American matter and confirmed that trilateral negotiations between the parties will resume shortly.
