President Donald Trump said he met Thursday with Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev, but not the visiting Ukrainian delegation, and declared the US is “very close to settling” the Russia-Ukraine war with an agreement that could “involve all of Europe.” Asked whether he also met the Ukrainian officials who attended a White House ceremony earlier in the day, Trump replied, “No, just with the head person of Russia.” He declined to detail his discussions with Dmitriev, saying only that “it’s going to be a big, beautiful agreement, and everyone’s going to be thrilled,” while adding that “Russia is losing civilians also.”
